What Etsy actually charges you

Every Etsy shop owner ends up asking the same question: what do I actually keep from a sale? The answer is not a single number. It is four separate fees, and each one has its own rules. They are all public, they are all in Etsy’s help pages, and they are easy to miss.

The listing fee. $0.20 per item, charged when the item sells. List one item, pay once. A listing with quantity 10 that sells 3 times pays 3 times.

The transaction fee. 6.5% of the total order, and that total includes shipping. This is the big one.

The payment processing fee. This depends on your bank country. For US sellers it is 3% plus $0.25 per order.

Offsite ads. If a buyer found you through an offsite ad, Etsy takes 15% of that sale. Once your shop has made $10,000 in any 365-day period, the rate drops to 12%, and the fee is capped at $100 per order.

Here is a real example. You sell a $30 item with $5 shipping.

• $0.20 listing fee
• $2.28 transaction fee (6.5% of $35)
• $1.30 payment processing (3% of $35, plus $0.25)

That is $3.78 on a $35 order. You keep $31.22, about 89% of what the buyer paid. An offsite ad sale takes another slice on top: 15% of the sale, up to $100.
